Most Winnipeg homeowners assume window replacement has to wait for spring. It doesn’t. Winter installs are common here, and done right, your house barely notices.
In fact, winter is when bad windows hurt the most. Drafts, frost on the glass and high heating bills all peak in January. Waiting until May means another full winter of paying to heat the outdoors.
How a winter install keeps your home warm
The key is working one opening at a time. Our crew never strips the whole house at once.
- One window out, one window in. Each opening is exposed for a short time before the new unit goes in.
- The room stays closed off. We shut the door to the room we’re working in so the rest of the house keeps its heat.
- Cold-weather materials. Sealants and insulating foam are chosen to cure properly in low temperatures.
- Sealed the same day. Every window is insulated and sealed before we move to the next one.
Why winter can actually be a good time
- Faster scheduling. Fall and spring book up quickly. Winter often has shorter wait times.
- You feel the difference right away. The improvement is obvious the first cold night after install.
- Drafts are easy to find. Cold air shows us exactly where the old frames were leaking.
What to expect on install day
Clear about a metre of space in front of each window and take down blinds and curtains. Keep pets in a separate room. Our installers protect floors and clean up when they’re done.
